Lucas County Regional Board of Health  Makes Recommendation

Lucas County is experiencing significant COVID-19 spread within the community and has been on Alert Level 3 (red) under the Ohio Public Health Advisory System since July 17. This level indicates very high exposure and community spread and all in-person activities should be limited as much as possible.

The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department has identified an increase of COVID-19 cases in those who are younger. Approximately 57% of all confirmed cases in July and into August are comprised of individuals aged 0 to 40 year of age.


The Lucas County Regional Board of Health made the following motion during today’s special board meeting:


“….. the Board of Health, based on public health principles and the best public health information and analysis available to us, and consistent with our mission to promote and protect the health of all people who live, learn, work and play in Lucas County, issue a recommendation to all Boards of Education and school boards in Lucas County that they implement remote education for their students beginning on the first day of the fall semester, to be presumptively in place until October 1 and to be reconsidered collaboratively in light of data and public health information which will be evaluated against criteria to be established by the Board of Health, and that further we recommend that all interscholastic sports be presumptively suspended until October 1 likewise to be reconsidered collaboratively in light of data and public health to be evaluated against criteria established by the Board of Health.”
