*Like to sew?  JoAnn Fabrics sewing instructions also below

For residents here in Sylvania and across the nation, face masks have now been recommended.*   But how do you get your hands on one?  Easy!  Grab Fido's bandanna, or any square piece of cotton fabric, and two rubber bands, then follow the simple no-sew instructions here.  Or if you like to sew and have a sewing machine, scroll down further for the JoAnn Fabrics instructions for mask-making with a sewing machine.

Simple No-Sew Instructions

  • Place the bandanna or square piece of fabric face down on a flat surface.

(Research shows 100% cotton works best, but any cotton materials will be acceptable.)

  • Fold the top half down to the mid-line of the scarf, then fold the bottom half up to the mid-line.

  • Flip it over so that the seam faces down.

  • Fold the new top half down to the mid-line, and the bottom half up.

  • Flip it over again so that the seam faces up.

  • Loop a rubber band or hair tie over each end of the folded rectangle.

  • Fold the free sides of the rectangle in toward the middle, layering one side over the other.

  • Flip it over, place it across your face (cover mouth and nose), loop the rubber bands or hair ties over each ear, and you are done!
