The Franciscan Center of Lourdes University is pleased to announce the December slate of events.
Monday, December 2
Join Lourdes University’s Lifelong Learning for Chilean Wines for Chilly Nights with Nicholas Kubiak, Certified Specialist of Wine and Spirits, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Tango through the Andes and learn how “the end of the world” does wine. The expansive countries of Chile and Argentina have drawn explorers to their lands for decades in hopes of finding greatness. Compare the two southerly countries and taste how their wines are affected by various flat lands, mountains or valleys. Attendees welcomed to bring their own food pairings, as food will not be provided. For more information, contact Dr. Laura Megeath at (419) 824-3707 or email email@example.com.
Tuesday, December 3
Lourdes University presents the Sharing the Spirit Christmas Buffet and Tree Lighting for its students, employees, alumni and families at 4:30 p.m. For more information, contact Sister Barbara Vano, Director of Campus Ministry and Service Learning, at 419-824-3861 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tuesday, December 10
Lourdes Lifelong Learning and the Sylvania Franciscan Village host Breaking the Taboos of Interfaith Dialogue: A TED Talk from 12pm to 1pm. Join us as we view this TED Talk video, where Rabbi Ted Falcon, Pastor Don Mackenzie and Imam Jamal Rahman provide a unique blend of spiritual wisdom and humor in sharing about their work to support more effective interfaith dialogue that can bring greater collaboration on major social and economic issues. Afterwards stay as we discuss new ideas and share insights. Cookies and coffee provided. Free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Laura Megeath at (419) 824-3707.
Wednesday, December 11
Lourdes University’s College of Nursing offers a Nursing Convocation from 7pm to 9pm. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Suzan Ulrich at email@example.com.
Thursday, December 12
The Sylvania Franciscan Village is pleased to present Father Jim Bacik’s Advent Reflection, “The Eucharist as a Memorial Meal,” from 5:30pm to 7pm. When we gather for the Eucharist we offer a sacrifice to God, but we also share a memorial meal. This lecture invites us to remember, as commanded, the Christ who went about doing good, washed feet, accepted death on the cross, rose from the dead, and who summons us to share in his mission. $10 in advance; $15 at the door. Purchase tickets online at www.sylvaniafranciscanvillage.org, or reserve them by leaving your name and the number of tickets required at 419-824-3515, or firstname.lastname@example.org. The first 200 attendees will receive a FREE copy of Fr. Bacik’s new book, “St. Francis and His Critics: Historical and Theological Perspectives.”
Saturday, December 14
A Recognition & Awards Ceremony is scheduled at 9 a.m. for Lourdes University Master of Science in Nursing: Nurse Anesthesia Program graduates. For more information, contact Kim Ross at 419-517-8895 or email@example.com.

Lourdes Lifelong Learning presents Engaging Communities, Delivering Justice Results, with guest speaker Alica Smith, from 10am to 11am. Refreshments served at 9:15am. Community residents in Toledo and Flint continue to struggle with trusting their local government facilities to provide clean, safe, affordable water. Deciding factors seem to be proverbial “bottom line” issues, and crucial information is not being provided by state and local government. Mrs. Alicia Smith, MA is the Junction Coalition Community Liaison & Freshwater Future Associate Policy Director, and also works with Alternative Solutions, LLC for Community Empowerment in Toledo. For more information, contact Dr. Laura Megeath at (419) 824-3707 or email@example.com.
Rooted in the Catholic and Franciscan tradition, Lourdes University is sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis, and offers baccalaureate degrees in a variety of academic majors as well as graduate degrees in business, education, nursing, organizational leadership, social work, and theology. Community outreach programs include the Appold Planetarium and Lifelong Learning. A member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, Lourdes students can also compete in a variety of men’s and women’s sports. Named a “Best in the Midwest” college by the Princeton Review, Lourdes University is a nationally accredited, veteran and transfer-friendly institution offering a variety of student scholarships.
