Sixteen Sylvania high school graduates join military
Northview, Southview grads serving their country

From Sylvania's 2021 graduating class, six Southview graduates and ten Northview graduates have enlisted in the military, and most are already deep into their training, preparing to serve their country.

“I send my personal thanks and congratulations to the 2021 high school graduates who have enlisted in our armed forces," said Sylvania Mayor Craig A. Stough.  "We are fortunate to continue having young people willing to step up and defend our freedom!  Best wishes to them all as they serve our great nation!”

Graduate Leaves for Army Basic Combat Training Course


Army Recruit seeks to become a US Soldier by attending initial training at Ft. Benning, GA


    Ft. Benning, GA; JUNE, 2021. In a quest to become a member of the US Army, Southview High School graduate Trenton Arvay worked with Staff Sergeant Keith Cradlebaugh, the local recruiter at the US Army Recruiting Station in West Toledo. Once the enlistment process was complete, he traveled to Ft. Benning to complete his basic combat training. There, Arvay will endure three phases of training that are meant to challenge men and women both physically and mentally. Upon completion of Army Basic Combat Training, Arvay will continue on to train in his MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) 11X - Infantryman. Infantry Soldiers defend our country from threats on the ground and specialize in the use of a variety of small arms and advanced weaponry to destroy and deter the enemy.

   Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo; July, 2021. In a quest to become a member of the US Army, Northview High School graduate James Bolek worked with Staff Sergeant Gauge Rush, the local recruiter at the US Army Recruiting Station in West Toledo. Once the enlistment process was complete, he traveled to Ft. Leonard Wood to complete his basic combat training. There, Bolek will endure three phases of training that are meant to challenge men and women both physically and mentally. Upon completion of Army Basic Combat Training, Bolek will continue on to train in his MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) 31B – Military Police. Military Police are responsible for protecting peoples’ lives and property on Army installations by enforcing military laws and regulations, preventing crime, and responding to all emergencies.
