Sylvania Schools District Update July 15, 2020
Reopening plan now focused on the Yellow-Hybrid model
Sylvania News

We hope this communication finds you doing well during these challenging times. With that said and as promised, we want to provide you with an update regarding the start of the upcoming school year.
Last week, Sylvania Schools submitted our Task Force’s 2020 Restart Reopening plan to the Toledo Lucas County Health Department.  The purpose of the required submission was to garner their professional feedback on how to best keep our students, staff and families safe while providing a solid, well-rounded educational experience under the restraints of the COVID pandemic.

As a district, we were looking forward to the time where we would be able to educate all of our students in our buildings every day as our outlook remained optimistic; however, at this juncture it appears that this will not happen with the start of the 2020 school year.

Our district has received a response from the Toledo Lucas County Health Department regarding our plans to return to school, and we appreciate their thoughtful, professional guidance regarding our goal to implement the Green plan. We now find ourselves having to align with their guidance, and must change the focus of our reopening plan.

We are now planning for our buildings to open under the Yellow-Hybrid model. We are focusing the Task Force’s work on this model to refine the elements of the plan.
We recognize that the hybrid plan affects family schedules and child care needs. It is for the health and safety of our students and staff that we are making the shift to the hybrid model. Details will be coming soon to allow families as much time as possible to plan for Yellow.

Please look for more information to come this week about the live stream Virtual Town Hall on Tuesday, July 21 after the 5pm Board of Education meeting.  This will be a discussion about the plans (Yellow in-person/remote hybrid, Red remote learning, and the 100% online SALA Orange option). Our panelists include members of the Board of Education, administrators, and representatives from our staff.
