New board member chosen for Sylvania Schools
The Sylvania Schools Board of Education has announced that Tammy Lavalette will be the newest member to join the board.
The school district will be holding a virtual town hall on February 3, 2021, during which the new board member will be sworn in and introduced to the community. Residents can submit questions in advance here:
The town hall comes after two Sylvania School Board members have resigned in recent months. The most recent resignation came on January 11 when Shannon Szyperski unexpectedly handed in her resignation during a board meeting.

Shannon Szyperski has resigned from the Board of Education. We appreciate Ms. Szyperski’s years of service and wish her well.
The resignation leaves an opening for which we are now accepting applications. If you are a district resident and are interested in joining the Board, please complete the online application. The deadline to submit an application is January 20 at 5:00 p.m.
PLEASE NOTE: The term for the vacated seat ends on 12/31/2021.

Sylvania Board of Education reviewed the 31 applications received for the open board seat recently vacated by Shannon Szyperski. Six applicants have been contacted for an interview:

Danielle Filipchuk
Tammy Lavalette

Brian Skelding
The Board thanks everyone who took the time to apply for the open seat and looks forward to interviewing the finalists during the executive session of a special board meeting this Thursday, January 28 at 4:00.
