Sammie Young will be representing our great city as Miss Sylvania at the National American Miss National Pageant in Orlando the week of Thanksgiving 2020. Ms. Young placed 2nd runner up overall as well as winning the Top Model, and Casual Wear Modeling competitions at the State Pageant which earned her the ability to compete at Nationals.
Miss Sylvania Sammie Young
Sammie is a graduate of Sylvania Northview High School and is currently a sophomore at Gannon University in the advanced honors program studying Athletic Training and Sports Nutrition. She also earned 2 NCAA athletic scholarships for swimming and water polo. The Sylvania youth is the daughter of Russ young, a technician at Cyclewerks, and Liz Young, marketing coordinator for Sylvania Community Action Team.
Sammie's platform is S.A.M.M.I.E. Strong. She uses her platform as a Student Mental Health Advocate for Gannon, focusing on finding one's inner strength to overcome obstacles and promote better mental health.
National American Miss is the largest pageant platform for young women and girls. NAM focuses on growing confidence and believing that each girl is unique and special in their own way. Girls under the age of 14 are not permitted to wear make-up and older girls must be age appropriate. NAM wants girls to feel beautiful just as they are and be confident in who they are. There are 4 areas of required competition: Personal Interview, Personal Introduction, Escorted Formalwear, and Community Service. There are other optional contests, but are not required to win the crown.
Sammie has put together some amazing raffle baskets to help offset some of the costs of attending Nationals. (See flyer below)
