The Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Sylvania Township Fire & Police Departments and the City of Sylvania Police Department is hosting a Drive-By Parade for Sylvania Senior Living Facilities.

• Date: Thursday, April 30, 2020 beginning at 9:30 am
• Route will begin at Sunset Retirement Community – 9640 Sylvania-Metamora Rd, Sylvania, OH 43560
• The parade will continue to The Lakes of Sylvania, Kingston of Sylvania, Oakleaf Village, Alexis Gardens and Vibrant Life Senior Living in Temperance.

The Sylvania Township Police and City of Sylvania Police will lead the parade followed by Sylvania’s Town Crier and individuals from the Sylvania Chamber staff team, Board of Directors and Welcoming Committee. The parade will be concluded with a fire truck from the Sylvania Township Fire Department. Participants will wave signs and banners to celebrate the senior shut-ins. This is the first-time a parade has been coordinated for each of these senior living facilities.

The Sylvania Chamber also learned that since the quarantine began, vending machine personnel have not been able to re-stock the vending machines within the facilities. Residents are missing the opportunity to stroll to the vending machines and purchase treats like cookies, crackers, and bottled juices. The Sylvania Chamber organized a donation drive throughout the Sylvania community called “Snacks for Shut Ins.” The community delivered in a huge way dropping off 2 car loads full of snacks and treats. The Sylvania Chamber staff team prepared the snacks in “Blessing Baskets” and will be delivering the baskets to each senior living facility during the parade.

“I have heard many stories of our seniors becoming very lonely during this time of quarantine. Without routine visits from family members and friends, our seniors have also been impacted by the stay at home orders. We are hopeful this parade spreads joy and smiles as we pass by. I’m not sure who is going to be smiling bigger, the seniors or myself,” said Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Michelle Sprott.

The purpose of The Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce is to promote the progress, expansion, well-being and improvement of the Sylvania area business, professional and civic community. Membership in the Chamber offers numerous opportunities and benefits, but more importantly, it signifies support of and a commitment to the entire community. We strive to plan for a successful business and professional community and yet maintain the uniqueness and charm of Sylvania. With over 500 members, the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce continues to grow and welcomes new members.
