Sylvania Schools Superintendent addresses the death of George Floyd

The tragic death of George Floyd and systematic social injustices demonstrate the need for understanding, compassion, and change. Hate and racism cannot be tolerated. As educators, it is critical that our African American students and all students of color know that we value them and their experiences.

We owe it to our future generations of graduates to acknowledge and educate our students about the cultural inequities that have existed in our country. Community members who are affected or concerned need to be heard. We need the help of our students and families to openly share with us when we fall short.

Our district’s vision is to be an exceptional public school district that teaches and inspires students to contribute to society in meaningful and compassionate ways. We recommit to this vision with a renewed appreciation that not only what we teach but how we care for each other is imperative to our students and greater community.
